Join the Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education as we raise awareness about consent during Consent Action Week at York U from Jan. 24 to 28. Virtual workshops, guest lectures and training is open to students, staff and faculty.
The Virtual Welcome campaign bridges the return to in-person learning. QR codes are displayed at key service points across campus offering the community virtual access to the Start Strong YU website, the campus map, the SAVY virtual assistant and live chats with Student Engagement Ambassadors.
High school special education teachers, guidance counsellors, school board psychologists, and special education consultants attended a workshop that highlighted information on accommodations supports, documentation, registering and accessing financial information on Dec. 8, 2021.
Phase I of a redesigned website for prospective York students launched in December 2021. The project, a collaboration between Student Recruitment & Admissions & the Communications & Marketing teams, offers a student-centric website that merges a data-driven design with a user’s application journey.
The website redevelopment project, led by the Communications & Marketing team in partnership with experts across the Division, will deliver engaging, relevant and timely information to students in a user-friendly manner. Websites will be completed by summer 2022.
In December, VPS leaders joined staff from across the University in a visioning session to establish a collaboration and support framework between the Keele and Markham campuses. This framework will guide VPS Working Groups tasked to develop and implement Markham's students services.
Career Education & Development partnered with the Government of Canada to provide students with opportunities to connect with hiring managers from the Federal Government, which included the Strategies for Getting Hired with the Federal Government virtual panel and a virtual speed hiring event.
The Division of Students offered a wide variety of orientation programming for all new and incoming students on Jan. 7. Students attended a virtual welcome session which included a panel of students providing advice to new students on how to be successful in their first year at York.

Our Future begins now. With the addition of the new York University Markham Campus, it is imperative that we refine our holistic student service delivery. The pandemic has taught us that we also must provide services in all ways that reach our students – for example, not only in person but also online/remote.
There is a need to shift towards systems which integrate the ever-expanding use of data in ways that can create more efficient transactions and use of information. We must also re-examine the ways students interact and engage with learning and services to focus on the most impactful ways to help them succeed.Discover More About Create Our Future

An equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment means embedding principles of EDI in everything that we do. All actions and interactions are informed by the lived experience of individuals who face systemic barriers in accessing postsecondary education.
We must be intentional about removing barriers to gaining access and being successful within postsecondary education. Access is achieved when qualified individuals regardless of backgrounds or socio-economic status have clear pathways to enter postsecondary, and when navigating processes and services are easy. All community members strive to ensure that processes, services, and programs are easy to access.
Well-Being is a necessary pre-condition of working and learning. The current UAP identifies the need to create a sense of belonging, have a common purpose, and share responsibility in supporting each other to ensure that all members of our community feel welcome. These elements promote an environment where students and staff thrive and flourish.
Learning is reaching outside of comfort zones, discovering what is required to grow and committing to making those changes for improvement. A learning mindset at work and during interactions with students will help to discover the most effective, efficient and caring ways to be partners in success every time we connect with a student.
