Do you want to work with staff and students to improve the student experience with services at York? Are you friendly, approachable, and do you care about others’ experiences? Then this might be for you!

First-Year Students

Who and what?

The Division of Students is looking for 20 first-year students from across the University to report on their student experience with services, to help improve our understanding of the real and lived experience with services at York. The group will also participate in focus groups to help improve the student experience with services at York.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates must:

  • be a first-year undergraduate student in good standing;
  • be willing and available to share personal accounts or reflections of their experiences with services in an appropriate, honest and constructive manner;
  • demonstrate interests and/or experience in improving the student experience with services

Returning Students

Who and what?

The Division of Students is looking for five students from across the University to interview five students each, to help improve our understanding of the real and lived student experience with services at York. The group will also participate in focus groups to help improve the student experience with services at York.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates must:

  • be a current undergraduate student (second- through fourth-year) in good standing;
  • have very strong interpersonal skills, and;
  • demonstrate interests and/or experience in using narrative inquiry or related approaches.

  • Receive a $100 honorarium and a letter of commendation, conditional upon completion of responsibilities.
  • Help improve the student experience by reporting on and applying findings towards a new Student Service Excellence framework.

  • Learn and practice important skills like design thinking and interviewing.

Why?

The purpose of this project is to learn from the experiences of students so that we can co-create a student-centric ecosystem that delivers service in a timely, accessible, accurate, accountable and caring manner. The Division of Students wants to deliver services that ultimately helps students advance towards their academic goals more effectively, both virtually and in person. It’s imperative to have real-time reports of students’ experiences with our services as we build that framework.
